Chris Maddocks

My work attempts to destabilize the notion of value in contemporary culture. Today this concept masquerades in meaning-forms ranging from aesthetic, economic, political, spiritual and utilitarian; many different forms but without the faintest critical evaluation or basis. My work overlays varying objects on the painting plane to depict how our mental ordering of conflicting objects and value is a subjective, constructed, learned process.
